I painted A Shepherd’s Directive as a powerful allegory of leadership and inherited vision, drawing on the “Testament of Moses.” The composition centers on a figure in a striped patterned garment whose steady hand on the other’s shoulder acts as both a stabilizer and a catalyst for action. This work explores the radical trust required between the leader and the led, where one identifies a path of freedom that the other cannot yet see. The singular “directive”—the finger pointing toward an unseen horizon—transforms the grey, block-walled environment into a site of profound transition and spiritual duty.

In this piece, I focus on the protective and sacrificial nature of guidance. The contrast between the formal patterns of the “shepherd” and the utilitarian attire of the figure being led emphasizes a shared journey across different states of being. By placing them against a stark, structural backdrop, I aim to highlight the “structural” resilience found in mentorship and communal guidance. A Shepherd’s Directive honors the courage required to point the way and the absolute faith required to follow, celebrating the human capacity to navigate toward a promised future through collective strength.
